When Is Shavuot? – Yoel Halevi

And you shall count for yourselves from the day after the Sabbath, from the day that you brought the sheaf of the wave offering: seven Sabbaths shall be completed. Count fifty days to the day after the seventh Sabbath; then you shall offer a new grain offering to Yehovah…And you shall proclaim on the same day that it is a holy convocation to you. You shall do no customary work on it. It shall be a statute forever in all your dwellings throughout your generations. – Leviticus 23:15-16,21

Thanks Yoel and Jono! I at one time started the count to shavuot from the day after the intermediate sabbath of unleavened bread and have struggled with the correct time every year. Just be be up front my wife and I are fairly naive to the scriptures and have tried our best to walk with Yehovah over the last 4 and 1/2 years. A couple of years back we came to the understanding after comparing Josh. 5:10 and 11 to Lev. 23 that the count starts after the high day of unleavened bread. We would really appreciate your comments on this as we continually seek truth. Have a blessed shabbat!

Hi! I will try to answer your question,
Refering to lev 23 as far as my week hebrew is there is no word sabbath describing 15 nisan other that not severe work. Meaning you can do light work or little. So no complete rest as for sabbth.

Now describing the wave offring is day after hasabbath ….. The sabbath… But it not mention for nissan 15. So it must mean weakly sabbath.

During feast of unleavend bread it is one weekly sabbath. And no conflickts exept one…. When nissan 14 or last day of feats of unleaven bread. Wich day to have wave offring day after days of unleaven bread or the first.

Ref joshua scripture you mention it will occure on 1 day of feast on unleaved bread. This does not breaking the commandment beacuse you can do light work on this day so they could have a little food pick and harve a chaff of barley. Not severe.

Mention this day after sabbath can be on any day from 1- 7 week of feast unleavend bread.

Someone correct me if I am wrong

Leviticus 23:16 If you shall count 50 days until day after the seventh sabbath. Then there is no other way for the wave offring to be the day after a weekly sabbath. Due to fact there is no other 7 holidays that you can count 7sabbaths x 7 seven days a week= 49 + 1 day after =50 Please remember you start counting day after sabbath day1 on day 1 of the week. i don’t think you can go around this.

  4. David Malachi says

What I meant was joshua scripture tells only that that particulary year weekly sabbath ocurred on nisan 14 and nisan 22. So when that happens you can use this scripture for sure that wave offring would be on nisan 15. They ate from the land day after passower (day after nissan 14th). If you should follow tradition it would have been the day after unleavend bread it should have happend nissan 16th.
