Now when they saw him afar off, even before he came near them, they conspired against him to kill him. Then they said to one another, “Look, this dreamer is coming! Come therefore, let us now kill him and cast him into some pit; and we shall say, ‘Some wild beast has devoured him.’ We shall see what will become of his dreams!” – Genesis 37:18-20

12/12/14 This is in response to this weeks Torah Portion:

We fully enjoy these teachings, we are listening because we desire truth. However, We can not help but notice that Jason has very little input.

When the Children of Israel were to enter the promised land the first time, they did not because of unbelief. They had the Word, and even the presence of The Father, but not the FAITH to go with it. Faith is what it takes to believe that Yeshuah is the Messiah. For those of us that had life changing experiences at the time we believed and it changed us forever, no amount of explaining Yeshuah away as being the Messiah will work. We have even seen the dead brought back to life by the power of this Messiah. (Not by some big named evangelist, but the simple power of prayer in our own family)

For nearly a decade now we have attempted to follow Torah to the best of our ability. We loose family, friends, and status, and for our situation we closed a successful weekend business (resort) to be obedient to Sabbath.

I love the written Word, but not all of who Our Creator is can be found within these pages. His Mercies are new every morning. He is ever present and speaking. Not everything is written.
Further, one does not have to see the dead raised to life again to see the power of Yeshuah. It happens every time some one believes. They move from darkness to light and new life is given.

Thank you for the Pearls. They too are life changing.

I am curious about Tovia’s claim that the Midianites lifted the boy Joseph from the pit and sold him to the Ishmaelites for two reasons. In Gen. 37:36 in my JPS Torah, it says the Midianites, sold him in Egypt to Potiphar. I understand by looking at my NKJV at v. 28 the translation was embellished with “the brothers” pulling him out of the pit, where JPS does make it look like the Midianites did the heavy lifting and then they sold him to the Ishmaelites. But then further on in Gen. 45:4, JPS version, Joseph tells his brothers, “I am your brother Joseph, he whom you sold into Egypt.” Is it possible Joseph knew that the brothers had taken money from the Midianites and told them where to find their brother so they could clear their consciences by not being present and act surprised and guiltless when Reuben told them Joseph was gone. The real ape in the room is the interaction of Midianites and Ishmaelites that makes it an odd plot. How did the Midianites sell Joseph twice? And if that is a mistranslation, maybe the NKJV is correct to add the brothers. You could stretch it to assume the brothers sold Joey to the Midianites, who resold him to the Ishmaelites, hopefully with a small profit, and that v.36 just contracted the transaction at the end leaving out the third party.
