Toby Homeschool Highlights ~ week 16

August 26, 2010

I have decided to combine this weeks highlights with ‘Two Words‘. Mostly because it’s all I have time for! So here we go…

The Table…

of Abel.

(Bill’s intepretation of the Tower of Babel.)making tzit tzit. writing letters. first egg. fresh and raw.
Shema Y’srael!!!
shepherd boy. alien fingers.
book worm.
hi mum!

That was fun! some other highlights from our week..

  • Bridget started on Dance Mat Typing to improve her typing skills, blogged, read the Torah portion + gave some reflections, worked on her patchwork skirt she is making and tried to hide under her pillow every day when I woke her up at 6.30am to come and milk goats :-)
  • Jonah has made so many sets of tzit tzit this week, and he is proving to be very good at it! He and Bill played many games of checkers and chess, worked on their maths, watched some youtube vids on volcanoes and learned about Hebrew names for animals.

Well, it’s getting dark out so I must go collect goat kids for the evening. Blessings to all for a wonderful week ahead!

For the friend I’ve never met.

August 20, 2010

I have a friend. We have only known each other for a short time. We have met on the internet, have conversed via email and skype, but we have never met in the flesh. Yet, I feel such a connection to her, like she was a sister. We have much in common and I have to admit that I truly long to be near her! I long to spend many sunny afternoons in each others company…I long to watch our children play together… to learn to spin wool with her… to raise milking goats together! To be swapping recipes, sewing, shelling peas…that sort of thing. And chatting about Torah. Sigh.

But we have been scattered to the four corners of the earth, and my friend and I are about as far away from each other as you can get.

Right now my heart is especially yearning as she has just given birth to her second child, a little boy.

And I can’t be there to see him or to visit with her.

And I’m finding that very hard.

But I want you to know my friend, that I am so happy for you, that you have been given a son! May he be a blessing to you all your life.

And may Yehovah’s promise, that we be gathered again, be fulfilled soon!

Toby Homeschool Highlights ~ week 16

August 19, 2010

This week has seen much farm work happening! With 17 new goat kids we’ve had lots to do! The last doe kidded yesterday – 2 girls and 1 boy bringing the total to 8 girls and 9 boys. What a blessing! Only one doe had twins, all the rest triplets and one even had 5 kids! If you’ve been reading Bridget’s blog you’ll know that we have adopted 2 of those 5 and are hand raising them as they were a little slow on their feet. 6 days later they are both doing very well and although their mother won’t feed them they are back with the herd. So what does all of this have to do with homeschooling? EVERYTHING! This is our life and this is how we learn…we lead an Hebraic lifestyle of learning :-) Here’s a few other highlights from our week:

  • we shovelled 7 wagon loads of manure out of the goats paddock! (and yes, every muscle still hurts!)
  • we cleaned out the chicken coop and today we finally got an egg! Yay! Spring is on its way!
  • we viewed a picture of the actual flag from the Eureka Stockade and discussed what happened in the 1854 rebellion.
  • Jonah and William have been engrossed with paper craft making gun holsters and 3-D tent models.
  • Bridget is reading a Our Don Bradman – the diary of Victor McDonald in the My Australian Story series.
  • We had discussions on buoyancy when Jonah asked how ships float on the sea.
  • We played with some Hebrew words lists on BYKI.com
  • We learned about the ancient Hebrew meaning behind the word Life.
  • and we did a little maths and other book work…and read to each other in bed at night time :-)

That we our week in a nutshell! Blessings to you all for a peaceful Shabbat!
