HR ’10 percent’

Continuing the “Hebrew Roots” journey through the book of Hebrews, Mr. Spiritualbabies and I ask, who gave 10% in Genesis 14:20 and what was it 10% of anyway? Why do some English translations say “Abram” and some say “he”?

The Complete Jewish Bible says, “Avram gave him a tenth of everything.” Gen 14:20

The Amplified Bible says, “And [Abram] gave him a tenth of all [he had taken]”. – and references Hebrews 7:2.

It seems like Hebrews 7 is a determining factor in interpreting Genesi 14 in the minds of these translators.

These are really great studies! Thanks Jono and Jason – really appreciate the digging deeper into Hebrews!

I checked the original Hebrew and it does not say Avram…so that makes sense since the greek is also lacking Avram…(Jews did the translation of the 5 books only into the MX)
