A Karaite Perspective Of The History And Authority Of The Sanhedrin

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Assemble for Me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom you know to be the people’s elders and officers, and you shall take them to the Tent of Meeting, and they shall stand there with You. I will come down and speak with you there, and I will increase the spirit that is upon you and bestow it upon them. Then they will bear the burden of the people with you so that you need not bear it alone. – Numbers 11:16-17

The silver website has very compelling arguments for their beliefs; however, my biggest issue is the lack of belief in an afterlife. The problem with it is not from a selfish standpoint, but from the standpoint that if there is not judgement after this life, then there is no justice to evil people such as Hitler who took their own life instead of answering for their crimes. I can’t really accept the thought of a just deity allowing this to go unpunished simply because a mortal decided when they were done living. If you could address this in your next interview I would greatly appreciate it.

I can’t wait for part two! I had to listen to this program like twice to digest it. I’m still like Jono, “Why haven’t I ever asked these questions?” Thank you guys!

To compare the Sanhedrin to the 70 elders known by Moses to be leaders of the people is a ridiculous comparison. The president and vice president of the Sanhedrin were converts to Judaism, sons of Sennacherib the king of Assyria https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shmaya_(tanna).

@ Larry Sterner – if a convert is ‘good enough’ for the line of Mashiach, you may want to re-consider the premise of your argument about the ‘locus standi’ of the Sanhedrin.

  7. Larry Sterner says

Pete, who said anything about David’s line here? God only asks that His people give up the fetishes they keep and return to ‘Him’ wholeheartedly. All of Gods people were cast out among the nations, to serve other gods. I don’t believe a conversion can be performed today by the terms written down in the book of Teaching. There is no actual Passover offering performed today, only after God redeems His people will the temple be rebuilt, the alter purged, and the offerings reestablished as of old. Every man is required to pass under the staff and only a remnant will pass muster… to put it lightly.
Here’s some more of the Sanhedrin’s deeds, this one will cost many lives…don’t you agree?
