I am looking forward to this series! I have often wondered what the “literally hundred of prophecies fulled” were. I used that line when I was Christian, not even knowing what more than a handful of them supposedly were. Someone actually brought this list up in a recent discussion with my wife, as they were talking about our recent exit from Messi-Christian beliefs.

I have long agreed with the statement made that when a particular scripture can mean anything, it then means nothing. Even when I was hard-core Church of Christ, I’m not sure I would have agreed that some of these were even messianic.

Thanks Jono and Michael for your time and efforts.

If the idea of Enoch ascending to heaven, and Melchizedek as a type of savior are “Christian concepts”, then why do 2nd temple period documents like 1 Enoch and 11Q13/11Q Melchizedek from the dead sea scrolls seem to be the source of these ideas. Pharisaic/Rabbinic Judaism was not the only Judaism during the 2nd temple period. Christianity appears to have more in common with the Dead Sea Scroll communities, and the early believers of Yeshua as Messiah probably were more connected with that form of Judaism, than with the Pharisaic/Rabbinic form.

Just look at Josephus’ writings, He describes the 3 main sects of Judaism as the Sadducees, Pharisees, and Essenes. The NT was written in the same time period and country as Josephus’ writing. But the NT has the 3 main sects as Sadducees, Pharisees, and the early believers of Yeshua as Messiah. The NT does not mention the Essenes, and Josephus does not talk about the assembly of early believers of Yeshua as Messiah. Maybe they are the same group,

I am surprised that Genesis 22:12 was not also included in this “365 prophecies” list. This is where the Angel [of YHVH] says “Do not lay your hand on the lad, or do anything to him; for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me.” This is discussed as “God knowing that one day he would indeed sacrifice his only son”. Once again a prophecy leading to the Messiah.

Thanks so much for doing this study and I am looking forward to future ones on this topic. I can absolutely see the point you are making that this Christian 365 prophecies list that you have shown so far doesn’t hold up at all… the way you are presenting the information is very helpful for me to be able to see that these so called prophecies don’t really hold up to what Christianity says is “proof” of the Tanakh pointing to Jesus as the Messiah. I am really looking forward to hearing all future episodes on this topic. I just received in the mail Rabbi Singer’s two-volume book set about the subject and between the information in that study and these audios it will help me a great deal in understanding this topic better… thanks again for all you do!! :–)
