Yoel ben Shlomo -1 Samuel 8:1-22, + Update on Israel/Gaza Ceasefire

Yoel gives us an update on the ceasefire situation in Israel. Also, did Israel demand a demigod king like that of the nations? How does the behavior of the king in 1 Samuel 8:11-17 differ to the Torah of the king in Deuteronomy 17:14-20?

Thanks, guys, for another brilliant discussion of I Samuel. I have a question. I know Yoel spoke about it, but I am not sure I understand the issue. I, too, have a hard time believing that the king would write the Torah so that he could have it strapped to his arm. But, having a torah bearer carry it doesn’t quite match the text as I read it. In Deuteronomy 17:19 where it says, “that he shall write” (וְכָ֨תַב ) does that not mean that the king himself must write a Torah himself? Would that mean he had to write all five books of Moses? Could it possibly mean a portion of the entire Torah such as Devarim? Since it takes a highly skilled sofer approximately one year to produce a kosher Torah I have been puzzled by this commandment. Don’t kings have lots of things to do that take a lot of time? Given his other responsibilities how much time would be allotted to write an entire Torah?

I have a hunch that the ceasefire has come about because YHVH wants it that way. If Islam sees Israel as weak it will become bolder, more threatening and foolhardy. YHVH will harden their hearts so to speak and prepare them for full annihilation when the proper time comes. And it will be YHVH’s doing… so do not fear what the enemy thinks or does, YHVH will take care of His own.

Yoel! Glad you’re back and safe. I’ve really been looking foward to your comments and understanding of chapter 8. Since another election cycle, complete with the hype, divisivness, hysteria and talking heads recently came to an end over here in Babylon. I often wondered is this what Israel wanting? Why would anyone? Lol

    Thanks again.

Mat 24:8 “But all these things are merely the beginning of birth pangs. NASB

Thus, it apears that Ezk 38-39 apear to be coming as birth pangs to fulfillment; but it will be fulfilled as written.

    Shalom Jono,

Do you know that the Almighty has actually given us the name of the future Mashiach Melek of Israel?

There are several passage in the Tanakh where the Almighty is very explicit about this Mashiach. They are:

    Eze 37:24,25; Eze 34:23,24; Jer 30:8,9 and Hos 3:4,5.

Read the whole chapters to get the proper context to these passages.
