Thanks guys for another hour spent un-squandered. I have a question. 1 Sam. 3:3 …to sleep in the temple of the LORD. What is this temple? The word here is בְּהֵיכַ֣ל , not הַמִּשְׁכָּ֥ן. I know Yoel said they do not know for sure, but could it have been the Mishkan? I have always wondered what happened to it. Much of Shemot is devoted to the collection taken up to build it, instructions on how to build it, how they actually built it, how Cohenim were to serve in it, how the Levites were to carry it, how the tribes were to camp around it, how God spoke from it, etc., etc., etc. However, once the b’nei Yisrael entered the land it is seldom mentioned. This has always seemed strange to me.

Thanks guys. Just to clarify what you said verse 3 says is the the lamp/candle had not diminshed yet?
because mine says “and ere the lamp of God went out in the temple..” mine reads like it was out. I was just wanting to make sure I understood you right that in Hebrew it actually says it HAD NOT gone out yet. Thanks!

  3. Yoel Ben Shlomo says

Yes Krisi, the Hebrew states that the lamp or candle had not, it uses the word Terem that in this case is a limiting element.
